LOIS for Word is built for legal teams that require the highest level of trust, control, and transparency. Protecting your confidential information is at the core of our product design, infrastructure, and policies.

Our commitment

  • Your organization controls saved content. Content such as playbooks, prompts, chats, and precedent is scoped to your organization and managed through product retention and deletion controls.
  • Customer data is not used to train AI models. Documents and prompts sent to model providers are subject to contractual and technical data-use controls.
  • Provider processing is separate from product storage. AI-provider retention terms do not determine how long content intentionally saved in LOIS for Word remains available.
  • Human review remains essential. Users should review AI-generated analysis, redlines, and citations before relying on them.

How we handle your information

Documents

  • Documents are processed when you use features that require document context.
  • Uploaded documents and saved document-derived content are scoped to your organization.
  • Redlines and precedent remain in your knowledge base only when they are intentionally saved.

Chats

  • Chat history may be stored in LOIS for Word according to your organization’s configured retention period.
  • Organization admins can choose a fixed retention period or keep chats until they are manually deleted.
  • Prompts are sent to an AI provider when needed to generate a response. Provider processing is governed by separate retention controls.
See Organization settings for chat retention options.

Knowledge base

  • Playbooks, saved prompts, knowledge-base items, and precedent are stored in your organization’s workspace.
  • This content remains available until an authorized user changes or deletes it.
  • Precedent is added only when a user saves or uploads it.

Access and permissions

  • Users authenticate through Filevine.
  • Filevine account admins provision product access, while LOIS for Word Admins manage in-product roles and removal.
  • Microsoft 365 administrators separately control deployment of the Word add-in.
See Authentication and access for details.

AI provider safeguards

LOIS for Word uses contractual and technical controls for information sent to AI providers. These controls apply to provider processing and do not replace retention settings for content stored in LOIS for Word. See AI provider data retention for the scope and limitations of these controls.
